Memorial Day

My grandfather's WWI medals. They are: the Croix De Guerre , the Silver Star , the Purple Heart and the Victory Medal . As a member of the Signal Corps , he helped break a German artillery code , stopping a major German advance, and was awarded the Silver Star in the field by General Pershing . Won the Croix de Guerre , the French " Cross of War", for heroism in the line of duty and the Purple Heart for shrapnel and gas wounds suffered in heavy fighting in the trenches at Chateau Thierry in 1918 , one of the most important battles of the war, which helped stop the German advances to Paris and would soon lead to victory.

Merry Moosemas

The traditional Moosemas feast , having friends and family over eating poorly cooked casseroles.
The moosetree decorated for the holiday.

The great holiday of Moosemas comes from the old Saxon word "mooz", meaning: to lounge about, watching old movies on the couch and munching on fritos . Learn more of this traditional American holiday here .
